The Problem Solving Seminar, which meets each Tuesday evening in the
spring from 6-8 PM, is similar in nature to the Putnam
Seminar but it focuses on posing and solving deeper problems.
In addition, students become familiar with
computational aids (MAPLE), and the LaTeX
typesetting environment.
The problems considered are selected from recent journals of the
Mathematical Association of America (American Mathematical Monthly,
Mathematics Magazine, and College Mathematics Journal). Students are
encouraged to work cooperatively and submit solutions for publication.
See some problems and solutions
from the 1999-2000 Seminar.
Here is some information for students currently
attending the seminar.
