I plan to work with Professor Helliwell, examining the properties of quantum particles near singularities in a general-relativistic metric. This semester, I am taking general relativity (Phys 172) and quantum mechanics (Phys 116), and last semester I did an independent reading with Prof. Helliwell in general relativity covering parts of Hans Ohanian's Gravitation and Spacetime and Wolfgang Rindler's Essential Relativity: Special, General, and Cosmological. In my research, I intend to develop a deeper understanding of the differential geometry which underlies general relativity and a better understanding of the physics involved with quantum particles in strong gravitational fields.
