HW assignments
due weekly on Thursdays in class
.
You should be writing up all the theorems you prove,
but the ones below are ones you will hand in.
Write these up carefully! Full credit only
awarded for elegant and well-written solutions.
(By the way, if you've seen a proof in class that you like better than
your own, feel free to write that one up for the HW. Just remember to
justify the details carefully.)
[
To help the grader, please box or circle the theorems that are to be graded.]
HW #1 (due Thu. 1/27): HAND IN Theorems 5, 6, 7, 9.
HW #2 (due Thu. 2/3): HAND IN Theorems 10, 13, 14, 18, 19.
HW #3 (due Thu. 2/10): HAND IN Theorems 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, and
Theorem 3 from our supplement on Interior and Boundary.
HW #4 (due Thu. 2/17): HAND IN Theorem 31, 34, 36, 37[i=>ii only], 40.
Be sure to be keeping up with your notebooks; I'll ask you to hand
them in the following week (as part of HW #5).
HW #5 (due Thu. 2/24): HAND IN Theorems 41, 46, 48, and
and hand in your NOTEBOOKS for evaluation! (The notebooks will go to
me, and the assignment to the grader.)
I will look over the notebooks and evaluate them
based on the following criteria: content [10 pts] and organization [10
pts].
The folder should be made in such a way that, in 10 years, you can
pull it off your shelf and understand what you did in class! For more
details on my grading rubric:
Content:
10 pts = all theorems are written out carefully.
7-9 pts = all theorems written out or sketched
6 pts or less = various kinds of incompleteness
Organization:
10 pts = folder neatly organized, with notes, theorems, HW's separated
by sections, and the Progress Sheet on top (with a completely updated
list of theorems presented, proved, learned in class, etc.)
7-9 pts = less neatly organized
6 pts or less = sections missing, folder not neat
HW #6 (due Thu. 3/3): HAND IN Theorems 52, 54, 55, 56, 59.
HW #7 (due Thu. 3/10): HAND IN Theorems 60, 62, 63, 64, 65.
Spring Break: No HW over break. Use the time to tidy up your
notebooks!
HW #8 (due Thu. 3/31): HAND IN Theorem 69, 70(d)=>(a), 70(c)=>(d), 75,
77.
HW #9 (due Thu. 4/7): HAND IN Theorems 82, 83, 86, 89 and a copy
of your PROGRESS SHEET (directly to me).
HW #10 (due Thu. 4/14): HAND IN Theorems 90, 93, 94, 96, 99,
and tidy up your notebooks!
HW #11 (due Thu. 4/21): HAND IN Theorems 101, 105, 107, 109, 110
and tidy up your notebooks!
HW #12 (due Thu. 4/28): HAND IN your notebooks, paying attention to
the notebook guidelines above.
Final exams (take-home) ready on April 28.
