Elementary Functions

Some of the simplest curves are the graphs of elementary functions. Examples include trigonometric functions, exponentials, logarithms, polynomials, and lines.

Conic Sections

Some common curves can be formed simply by slicing a cone with a plane. These so-called conic sections include the circle, ellipse, parabola, and hyperbola.

Famous Curves

These curves have been studied by famous mathematicians for their interesting properties and appearances. Many are named for the mathematicians that studied them. See the complete index for examples.
