HMC Math 62: Probability & Statistics (Summer, 2004)
Cover Sheet for Quiz #1

Due in class on Friday, June 11

RULES:
This quiz is a 1 hour "takehome" to be taken under strictest adherence to the HMC honor code. This test is closed book, closed notes... no reference material of any sort may be consulted while the quiz is in progress except for the information provided below. No calculators or slide rules are needed, and none are allowed. You must complete the entire quiz in one contiguous 1 hour sitting... no breaks allowed. Your 1 hour begins as soon as you follow one of the links below.

You may write the answers to as many questions as you like on a piece of paper, so long as your work is legible. You may use both sides of your paper. When you are finished, staple all worksheets together if there are more than one. Do not alter it, look at it, discuss it or even think about it until after you turn it in during class on Friday. Be good.

Where possible, explain your work… all problems require at least a little explanation to receive full credit. If you have any unresolveble questions about the exam content while you are taking it (you don't understand a question, you think there's a typo, etc.), state your assumptions about what you think the problem meant, and write a solution based on that. If you simply can't make sense of something, finish as much as you can in the allotted time. Then bring the question to me after class or during my office hours. I'll answer it, and give you a few minutes to work on the problem before you have to hand it in.

Medical conditions: Jeanne Noda has requested that I allow additional time to several students with specific medical conditions. If you have talked to Jeanne about this and would like additional time for this quiz, please e-mail me so that I can confirm having received such notification from her. I will send you a reply indicating the amount of time you will be given to take the quiz. Also let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Please do this well in advance of when you intend to actually take the quiz.

FREE NOTES:
Here are the formulas that you are allowed to consult during the quiz...
